Rajiv Gandhi University Extension Centre, Naharlagun, which is 12 kms. away from the main campus has been setup as a stopgap arrangement. The Extension Centre has been setup in a building which has been granted on lease by the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.

A brief note about the University
Rajiv Gandhi University (formerly Arunachal University) is the premier institution for higher education in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and has completed 25 years of its existence. Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone of the University on 4th February 1984. Subsequently, it started its postgraduate teaching from the academic session 1988-89 at Rono Hills, Doimukh, where the present campus is located. The University was converted into a Central University by an act of Parliament of India, which came into force from 9th April 2007 as per the notification of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
The campus at Rono Hills is nestled on a picturesque tableland of about 306.60 acres in the outskirts of Itanagar, the Capital of Arunachal Pradesh. It is at a distance of 7 km, measuring from the NH52A which leads to Itanagar.
The affiliating jurisdiction of the university encompasses all the existing colleges in the state, which includes 18 affiliated colleges. In the university, postgraduate programmes are offered in 17 departments. The Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS) offers an inter-disciplinary M. Phil. course and a postgraduate programme in Anthropology. In addition to this, all the departments in the university offer Ph. D. programmes. The University runs BCA, P.G. Diploma in Hospitality Management and Tourism, Certificate Course in Disaster Management and Certificate Course in Geographic Information System. The University has also introduced Postgraduate programmes in Management (MBA) and Computer Science and Technology from the 2006-2007 academic session.
The University has been striving to maintain high standards both in teaching and research in order to achieve excellence. Years of concerted efforts of the University have shown the signs of qualitative as well as quantitative progress. The research activities of the University are being strengthened by increasing the number of registered Ph.D. scholars and also by taking up many research projects funded by external agencies. The total number of published books and research articles has shown a significant rise. Two Research Journals, one each in English and Hindi, are published regularly. The Rono Post, the Rajiv Gandhi University newsletters is published half-yearly. The University has been organizing a number of conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops in order to generate, disseminate and upgrade knowledge on various key issues. With the help of ERNET India, New Delhi under the aegis of Department of IT, Government of India, a 1 mbps DAMA VSAT link and 2 mbps leased line for internet connectivity has been installed in the Campus. Apart from the internet services, other network and application resources are provided through state-of-art Campus Wide LAN which connects all the Academic and Administrative blocks. In addition, EDUSAT facility has also been installed.
The University provides boarding facility to 323 boys and 191 girls in four halls of residence for boys and two halls of residence for girls respectively. The other facilities / services available in the campus include play ground, Gymnasium, Day Care Centre, Health Centre, Post Office and Bank. The University has a Secondary School in its campus.
