Department of Education

Introduction

The Department of Education was established in 1988 by recruiting one Professor, two Readers and four Lecturers. The Department launched the B.Ed  programme in the academic session 1988-89 as it was deserved by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh  for clearing the backlog of untrained teachers working in secondary and senior secondary schools. The Department was also set up with the objective of producing the faculty for teaching at college and University level. Therefore, immediately after the completion of one academic session (1988-89), M.Ed courses was initiated with the intake capacity of 10 students only. After this, M.A. (Education) two year course was needed at the college level to teach the students of B.A. (Hons) of Education. At present, the Department is running B.Ed programme with intake capacity of 60 students. The Department possesses the research facility for Ph.D. research scholars and at the moment, there is provision of 18 Ph.D. research scholars. There are three major UGC research projects in hand and UGC has also selected the Department for Special Assistance Programme (SAP) which is about to be launched w.e.f. March 2005.

Department is planning to launch M.Ed course, Adult and Continuing Education, Diploma in Teaching of Mathematics, Diploma in Guidance & Counseling.
