Prof. Tamo Mibang
Prof. Tamo Mibang, born in 1955 was the Director of Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (A.I.T.S) of Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh prior to his joining to the position of Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University on 18th December 2012. He held the position of Pro- Vice-Chancellor of Arunachal University (now Rajiv Gandhi University) from 2002 - 2008. He was the Head of Department of Tribal Studies (Presently, Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies), and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences from April 1997 to May 2000. He obtained his Masters degree in History from Gauhati University in 1977 and Ph.D from Dibrugarh University in 1988. He has authored Social Change in Arunachal Pradesh (The Minyongs) and Adi Doying and co-authored An Introduction to Adi Language, Indian Folk Tales in North-East and Adi Grammar. He is an Executive Member in many national, regional and state level bodies. His area of interest is regional history and tribal development of North-East India. He has also engaged himself in various social activities for socio-economic upliftment of the tribal people of the State.
Some of the key achievements of Rajiv Gandhi University during the tenure of Prof. Tamo Mibang as VC includes opening of new departments like Social Work, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Physical Education, Music & Fine Arts, Psychology and Geology, creations of infrastructural avenues, conduct of many International and National Level Conferences & Seminars in the University. Prof. Tamo Mibang gave more emphasis on regular conduct of interviews to appoint faculty members, officers and staff for the university and at the same time offered promotions under CAS for the faculty members and other officers. Under his leadership RGU could able to successfully conduct the NAAC visit in 2015 after a long gap of 13 years. His continuous hard work helped Rajiv Gandhi University to rank 76th under University Category out of 100 Universities/ Institutions notified by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.
