Department of Economics offers M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Economics. The faculty members of the department have been involved in the study of different problems relating to development, especially in the North-Eastern region.The specific problems that have attracted research attention are poverty, institution formation especially in agriculture, human capital formation, population growth etc. THe problems of environment and eco-tourism in the context of development have also attracted research interests.The department has further indentified three major areas of thrust:
1. Problems of regional development in North-East India.
2. Environmental Economics and Eco-Tourism.
3. Problems of Human Development.
