Department of National Security Studies

The Department of National Security Studies, Rajiv Gandhi University was established in 2019 with Professor Nani Bath as the head of the department. Fostering innovative thinking and building a pool of experts of younger generation to help undergird India’s national security strategy in the future is the primary goal of the department. It also aims at providing a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the overwhelming scope of national security and its threats in a fast-evolving national and international landscape. Since national security is an all-encompassing term that includes the protection of a nation and its citizens from a range of multi-dimensional threats and coercion it is imperative to develop a cross-domain strategic culture as Athenian Historian and General Thucydides rightly point it out that “the state that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting by fools”.

The Department offers Doctoral Programme and a two years Masters Programme (based on Choice Based Credit System-CBCS) in Defence and Strategic Studies with an intake capacity of 24(03) students. The geo-strategic significance of Arunachal Pradesh being located in the periphery of China on one hand and gateway of South East Asian countries in the other hand has serves as a robust platform for academic research as well as policies analysis on issues related to national, regional and international security etc.

To engage in deeper academic research through long-term cultivation of Indian scholarly traditions resulting in the evolution of Indian schools of thought in security studies teaching and research.
