The OUTREACH PROGRAM was conducted by the Department of English at Govt. Secondary School, Rajiv Gandhi University campus on Nov. 22nd, 2019. The purpose of the Outreach Program was to extend the service and inculcate language skills among the school students. The program also aimed at giving opportunity and practice of teaching English as Second Language to the students of the department.

The Department of English, RGU, conducted an Outreach Program at Government Secondary School, Nirjuli and Government Secondary School at RGU campus simultaneously on 22nd November 2019. Around twenty IIIrd semester students and three faculties conducted the program at Govt Sec School, Nirjuli and ten IIIrd semester students and four faculties from the Dept of English conducted the program at Govt Secondary School, RGU campus.

 

Community Computer Classes for Children launched by Department of Social Work

On the eve of the Children‟s Day of 2019, MSW 1 st and 3rd Semester students of the Department of Social Work has launched free weekly basic computer learning course for the students of the Rajiv Gandhi University community. The main mission of the initiative is to provide basic computer knowledge to the students of standard 7 to 10.

Rural Camp cum Village Adoption Program by Dept. of Social Work, RGU at Tirap District

The Department of Social Work, Rajiv Gandhi University has recently conducted a Rural Camp cum Village Adoption (under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan) at Lazu village under Tirap district for a week long period extending from 30th September to 7th October 2016. A total of 31 students of both the first and third semesters of the MSW (Master in Social Work) and two faculty members of the Department successfully participated in the said camp.

The department of Social Work, Rajiv Gandhi University observed Swachhata Hi Seva, a two month long program whereby organized various outreach activities such as Shramdaan and plantation drive, essay writing competition and poster making competition between various departments, street play and power point presentation on the theme “Plastic Waste Free Campaign” in various important locations of Doimukh, Nirjuli and Naharlagun.

A state level workshop for coordinators of institute of distance education from across the state conducted on 20th & 21st June, 2019, concluded today with special valedictory session coinciding with celebration of International Yoga Day 2019 at the Mini auditorium of Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills.

 

RGU NSS Unit Organised One-Week Annual Special Camp at Lekha-Tumru Village

During the one week stay at the village the NSS volunteers conducted several community services besides taking up activities under Swachh Bharat internship programme. The NSS volunteers conducted village and household survey of the twin villages and organised gram panchayat meeting and identified the critical issues which needed immediate interventions.

On the 17th of May 2019, the Centre for Endangered Language (CFEL), AITS organized an outreach programme to Maharishi Vidya Mandir School in Rono, Doimukh. The students of standard 6th and 7th were invited for the screening for the CFEL produced documentary film, Ngok Miri Dekke Yoyo Gaga Goktuanam Kiding (Those Songs and lullabies I used to Sing) which was followed by an interaction session where the students put up questions regarding different elements observed in the film.

A five day Rural Camp 2019 was held on the theme “Swachh Gaon Sundar Bharat” from 5th to 9th February, 2019 in Kakoi Village, Kimin Sub-Division, Papumpare district of Arunachal Pradesh for the II and IV semester MASW students. To finalize the village, preparatory visits were made by the head of the department along with faculty members.

Department of Physical Education, Rajiv Gandhi University under its Outreach Programme conducted a 3 days “Nature Camp” for the children of 5 years to 15 years of age in the outskirts of the university. A total of 29 children attended the camp, out which 12 were girls and 17 boys.

During the health camp awareness programme on women help line was also conducted. Dr. Swapan Majumdar, Dermatologist of TRIHMS, Naharlagun conducted check up for 23 children and 36 adult members of the village.

The colloquium was organized by Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, Rajiv Gandhi University, in collaboration with Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Intangible Culture Heritage Division, New Delhi.

The Department of Botany, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Rono Hills, Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bangalore, organises a 2-week training course titled “Training on Adapting to Climate Change – A Focus on Biodiversity in the Eastern Himalayas” w.e.f. 22nd October to 3rd November 2018 at RGU which is sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology to ATREE under Training and capacity building programme.

Awareness cum Workshop on ‘Wildlife Status and Conservation Issues in Arunachal Pradesh’ at Jia, Lower Dibang Valley
On 16/02/2018, one day awareness cum workshop on, ‘Wildlife Status and Conservation Issues in Arunachal Pradesh’ was organized at Government Secondary school Jia, Lower Dibang Valley. Total 254 students and staffs attended the programme. Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on importance and status of wildlife in the state, Mr Abprez T kimsing spoke on wildlife and ecological services, Mr Jacob Ngukir and Talo Biju demonstrated photography techniques and use of birding fieldcrafts to the participants.

A week long fieldwork during February 2018 was carried out by the centre for endangered languages, AITS in Walong district to interact with the Meyor tribe about their language and culture. A seven days workshop on Tangam language Documentation was organised by Centre for Endangered languages (CFEL), Arunachal Institute of Tribal languages (AITS), Rajiv Gandhi University from the 7th-13th October 2016. The workshop was attended by eight native language consultants from Kuging village, under Tuting circle, Upper Siang district along with the entire CFEL team.

Another field trip was carried out again in the Month of October, 2016 in Noksa village of Tirap District for the audio-visual documentation of a Kasik festival called “Melo”. The Audio-Visual data consists of total number of 2,500 photographs, about 12 hours of video recordings and 4 hours of audio recording dealing with content on Melo festival.

Outreach Program Conducted at Disi Village, West Siang District

The Disi Primary School which was established in the year 1966, attained 50 years of its existence in March 2016. During celebration of Golden Jubilee of the school, Prof. Tamo Mibang, the honouble Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv University graced the school and participated the celebration more as local scholar than a Vice-Chancellor of a Central University. The original rural background setup, simplicity of the villagers, well maintained school and the fascinating natural set up of the village where more than 90% is under forest, won the status of adoption of a village. Villagers were so delighted when the Vice-Chancellor, at the end of his speech declared that the RGU is adopting the village for one year.

A National seminar on Oral and Textual Traditions of North East India was organized by AITS in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi from 28 to 30 March 2016. The inauguration on the 28th of March, 2016 was chaired by Prof. Tamo Mibang, the Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University.

Innovative Workshop with NSS volunteers

For the last one year, we were able to conduct various regular and special programmes with our volunteers and faculty. The National Workshop and MoU signed between NCRI and RGU are one of the milestones in reshaping and reconstruction of rural development. Three of our students have undergone two months summer rural internship at the remote villages of Arunachal Pradesh and submitted their reports to NCRI. We are sure that NSS Cell would be innovative and pragmatic in their future programme.

The RGU NSS Unit marked the World Environment Day by organizing a Vanmahotsava with the plantation of altogether 376 saplings in the campus. Language and Cultural Field Documentation of The Tangam & Khamba Community

The Centre for Endangered Languages (CFEL) carried out its first field trip from February 2016 to Kuging village, located in Paindem circle under Upper Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh to document the language, folk narratives and the cultural practices of the critically endangered Tangams (Adi) community.

The second field trip of CFEL was carried out in Noksa village of Tirap District in order to document the language and culture of Kasik Noctes. The Kasik language falls among the endangered lan¬guages of Arunachal Pradesh and is spoken only in Noksa, Pullong and Tupi villages of Tirap District.

Besides regular teaching and learning activities, they have also responsibilities towards their society by extending knowledge to local people in solving some of the local problems and motivate them to improve their life in the field of economy, health, better management of local resources, children educations, knowledge about their own rights and duties, and awareness about their local environment.

 

 

Capacity Building Programme on Cultural Resource Management

Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS) , Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for The Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi organized a four day Capacity Building Program on “Cultural Resource Management” in the mini auditorium of Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar from 9th to 12th February 2015.

The M.Sc. Final Semester Students of Department of Botany, RGU has successfully participated and trained themselves in Short Term Students’ Botanical Expedition -2015 lead by expedition team leader Dr. Hui Tag, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh and Deputy Coordinator of CPEB-II programme. The team has visited major botanical and biocultural hotspots of Tawang and West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh from 4th February to 11th February 2015.

 

Rural Outreach and Athnobotanical Appraisal and in Mishmi Hills and Lohit Districts

The botanical and cross cultural ethnobotanical field and rural outreach tour was conducted in Lohit, Anjaw and Changlang Districts of Arunachal Pradesh from 12th June 2015 to 23rd June 2015 by the PI and his scholars. The main aim of the expedition was to conduct taxonomic collection and exploration of flowering plants of the Mishmi Hills and rapid ethnobotanical appraisal and documentation of diverse uses of medicinal plants traditionally used by the local communities Khamti, Idu Mishmi and Mizo Mishmi.

 

Rapid Ethnobotanical Appraisal and Rural Outreach in Dibang Valley Districts

The second botanical field survey and rural outreach tour was carried out in Dibang Valley and Lohit Districts of Arunachal Pradesh from 10th July 2015 to 19th July 2015 by the deputed scholars to gather knowledge base of the Lower and Upper Dibang Valley Districts and part of Lohit District. The main purpose of the tour was to assess the cross cultural ethnobotanical knowledge base of the local communities particularly the Idu Mishmi, Adi, and Digaru Mishmi residing in the two districts and to document various uses of general ethnobotanical.

Higher Secondary School, Dirang on 9th January 2015 at Students Auditorium, Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Dirang, West Kameng.
