Department of Statistics

The Department of Statistics made its beginning as an independent department in the year 2019 under the stewards of Prof. Vandana Upadhyay as the Coordinator, an academician, and educator from the Department of Economics, Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh. In the history of Rajiv Gandhi University, the teaching of the subject of Statistics began for the first time at Post Graduate level as an M.Sc. programme in the year 2021, delaying around 2 years as a result of Covid-19 spread worldwide. Further development of the department in 2022 Ph.D. program and in 2023 B.Sc. (Honors in Statistics) have been introduced.

The objectives of the department are to produce the best Statisticians by enhancing Statistics education, research, and its applications in the service of public/private sectors.

For the benefit of the students, the department has been inviting visiting professors from other universities and institutions on a regular basis. Visiting professors in the Statistics department include Prof. Gyan Prakash Singh (BHU), Prof. S.K. Singh (BHU), Prof. Kishore Kumar Das (Guwahati University), Prof. Indranil Mukhopadhyay (ISI, Kolkata) and Dr. Piyush Kant Rai (BHU). The M.Sc. programme students have been regularly interacting with these visiting professors.
