Outreach Activities in the Year 2018
3 Days “Nature Camp for the Children” conducted by Department of Physical Education

Department of Physical Education, Rajiv Gandhi University under its Outreach Programme conducted a 3 days “Nature Camp” for the children of 5 years to 15 years of age in the outskirts of the university. A total of 29 children attended the camp, out which 12 were girls and 17 boys.

RGU Employees Association goes on Goodwill Mission to Seppa, East Kameng District

Members of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) under the banner of the RGU Explore Arunachal (RGUEA) recently visited Pakke-Kessang, Papu and Seppa in East Kameng district on a goodwill mission. During the course of the tour, RGU Controller of Exams (in-charge) Dr Nani Tamang Jose inaugurated One Life Foundation School on the outskirts of Seppa.

Health Camp cum Awareness Programme Organised at NSS Adopted Village

A health camp was organised on the eve of Guru Nanak Jayanti by the students of Department of Social work in the NSS adopted village of Lekha on 23rd November 2018. During the health camp awareness programme on women help line was also conducted. Dr. Swapan Majumdar, Dermatologist of TRIHMS, Naharlagun conducted check up for 23 children and 36 adult members of the village.

Dialogue on ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Communities’

A two days Colloquium on ‘Dialogue on Intangible Cultural Heritage of Communities’ was conducted in Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, Rajiv Gandhi University (November 19-20, 2018). The colloquium was organized by Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, Rajiv Gandhi University, in collaboration with Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Intangible Culture Heritage Division, New Delhi.

Dialogue on Intangible Cultural Heritage of Communities, 2018

AITS not only out reach the communities but also brought the communities to University inorder to bridge the gap. In this regard, the two-day programme brought together the community resource persons from different regions of Arunachal Pradesh to Rajiv Gandhi University during 19 & 20 November, 2018 and provided a common platform to discuss, interact with each other and share their views.

Socio Cultural Profile and Intangible Cultural Heritage of The Monpa Tribe of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

A field based research project entitled ‘Socio Cultural Profile and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Monpa Tribe of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh’ had been carried out by AITS in collaboration with Defence Institute of Psychological Research, DRDO, New Delhi during the year 2016-2018.

Media Literacy Campaign by Department of Mass Communication

The media literacy campaign was targeted towards school children. Both government and private schools were selected in and around capital complex for this purpose, namely: Government Secondary School, RGU Campus, Don Bosco High School, Nonpu, Doimukh, Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya, Nirjuli and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Naharlagan.

ATREE-RGU Autumn School Programme, Department of Botany

The Department of Botany, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Rono Hills, Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bangalore, organises a 2-week training course titled “Training on Adapting to Climate Change – A Focus on Biodiversity in the Eastern Himalayas” w.e.f. 22nd October to 3rd November 2018 at RGU which is sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology to ATREE under Training and capacity building programme.

Swachhta Hi Seva by Department of Social Work

On the occasion of the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi University is organizing the “Swachhta Hi Seva” cleanliness program in the University campus as a competition in different levels which has been kicked off from 20th September and will be concluding on 5th October 2018.

International Outreach Programme & Field Training on Cultural Resource Management

An International outreach programme and Field Training on Cultural Resource Management was conducted for a period of nine days from the 17th to 25th May, 2018 at different venues at the Dibrugarh University, Assam and Roing, Arunachal Pradesh. Two faculties and 20 students from University of South Florida, USA and ten members from AITS have participated in the workshop.

Visit of Team University of South Florida, USA to India

As a part of the ongoing INDO – US 21st Century Knowledge Initiative award, Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies( AITS), Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with School of Social Work, University of South Florida, USA and Research Institute of world’s Ancient Traditions Cultures and Heritage (RIWATCH) conducted a nine days International Workshop and Field Training on Cultural Resource Management from the 17th to 25th May, 2018 at different venues at the Dibrugarh University, Assam and Roing, Arunachal Pradesh.

Orientation Programme on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace

The Orientation program was held in different sessions in which out of total 49 students in First Semester, 39 students were present and students of APGDGINFO students also attended the orientation programme. In this orientation programme all the Faculty members deliberated words of advice/ suggestions to the newly admitted students of M.A. first semester and APGDGINFO students on the following points.

RGU NSS Unit Organised One-Week Annual Special Camp at Lekha-Tumru Village

During the one week stay at the village the NSS volunteers conducted several community services besides taking up activities under Swachh Bharat internship programme. The NSS volunteers conducted village and household survey of the twin villages and organised gram panchayat meeting and identified the critical issues which needed immediate interventions.

Awareness cum Workshop on ‘Wildlife Status and Conservation Issues in Arunachal Pradesh’ at Jia, Lower Dibang Valley
On 16/02/2018, one day awareness cum workshop on, ‘Wildlife Status and Conservation Issues in Arunachal Pradesh’ was organized at Government Secondary school Jia, Lower Dibang Valley. Total 254 students and staffs attended the programme. Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on importance and status of wildlife in the state, Mr Abprez T kimsing spoke on wildlife and ecological services, Mr Jacob Ngukir and Talo Biju demonstrated photography techniques and use of birding fieldcrafts to the participants.

Field Documentation of the Lha-Chuth Festival

A week long fieldwork during February 2018 was carried out by the centre for endangered languages, AITS in Walong district to interact with the Meyor tribe about their language and culture. During this trip an extensive audio-visual documentation of the pre-agricultural festival of the Meyor tribe which is called Lha-Chuth was carryout.

Workshop cum Awareness Programme on ‘Black Necked Crane and Population Status’ at Sangti, West Kameng

0n 28/01/2018 a one day workshop cum awareness programme on, ‘Black Necked Crane and Population Status’ is organised at government middle school Sangti, West Kameng. Total 76 students and staffs attended the programme. Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on Black necked crane and its distribution, habitat and food on the occasion.

INDO – US 21st Century Knowledge Initiative Award 2017-19

In a continuation of the educational partnership between the United States and India, the U.S. Department of State and the University Grants Commission announced the eight institutional partnership projects for the fifth and final round of Indo-U.S. 21st Century Knowledge Initiative awards (formerly known as the Obama-Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative).

Outreach Activites conducted by NSS CELL, RGU

The RGU NSS Unit is led by four Programme Officers: Gomar Basar (Assistant Registrar, Academic) and John Gaingamlung Gangmei (Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work), in the past one year (2016-2017), the RGU Cell were able to conduct various regular and special programmes of NSS.

Celebration of International Yoga Day at RGU

The NSS unit and Department of Physical Education of Rajiv Gandhi University celebrated international yoga day in a befitting manner in the campus on 21st June 2017. The programme was attended by Dr.Nani Tamang Jose Registrar incharge, Shri.Kurian Thomas Deputy Registrar, Shri.Taro Sindik Assistant Professor, Shri. Vishal kumar Burnijal Branch Manager Vijaya bank RGU besides host of participants comprising students and staffs of RGU and Vivekananda Arunjyoti volunteers.

National Workshop on Documenting Oral Traditions of North East India

A four days (22nd to 25th March, 2017) National Workshop on “Documenting Oral Traditions of North East India“ was organized by Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS), Centre for Endangered Languages (CFEL), Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi.

Awareness Programme on ‘Plants and Animals and Need for Conservation for Mankind’ at Lasum Pate Village, Pakke Kesang

On 18/03/2017, while adopting the Lasum Pate village, an awareness programme ‘Plants and Animals and Need for Conservation for Mankind’ was organized at Lasum Pate Village, Pakke Kesang. Prof. H.N. Sarma spoke on importance of plant emphasizing on medicinal plants, Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on wildlife and its important and need of conservation and Dr. David Pertin spoke on necessary to conserve forest and importance of plantation.

Awareness Programme on ‘Wildlife Population Status and Ecotourism Potential’ at Oyan

On 18/01/2017, a one day awareness programme on ‘Wildlife Population Status and Ecotourism Potential and others Benefits’ was organised at Govt. Upper primary School Oyan. Total 254 students attended the programme. Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on bird conservation, ecotourism potential & revenues and Talo Biju spoke on Vulture diversity and its population status on the occasion.

Awareness Programme on ‘Biodiversity and its Dispensable Services to Mankind’ at Wakro, Lohit

On 15/01/2017 a one day awareness programme on Biodiversity and its dispensable services to mankind was organized at government secondary school, Wakro, Lohit. Total 56 students and staffs attended the programme. Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on biodiversity and its ecological services, Lokesh Mam spoke on wildlife and necessary for conservation, and Mr Talo Biju spoke on bird diversity and population status on the occasion.

Workshop on Tangam Language Documentation

A seven days workshop on Tangam language Documentation was organised by Centre for Endangered languages (CFEL), Arunachal Institute of Tribal languages (AITS), Rajiv Gandhi University from the 7th-13th October 2016. The workshop was attended by eight native language consultants from Kuging village, under Tuting circle, Upper Siang district along with the entire CFEL team.

Documentation of the Melo Festival of Kasiks

Another field trip was carried out again in the Month of October, 2016 in Noksa village of Tirap District for the audio-visual documentation of a Kasik festival called “Melo”. The Audio-Visual data consists of total number of 2,500 photographs, about 12 hours of video recordings and 4 hours of audio recording dealing with content on Melo festival.

Workshop on Kasik Language Documentation

A seven days workshop on Kasik language was successfully conducted by Centre for Endangered Languages, Rajiv Gandhi University from 20th-26th September, 2016 at Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, RGU. A team of ten Native Kasik speakers from Noksa village of Tirap district were invited to the university.

Documentation of Flaa Ritual Performance of the Monpas

In the month of July 2016, CFEL team went for the audio-vi¬sual documentation of Flaa ritual performance of the Monpas of Hoongla village under the Lumla constituency, Tawang District.

Meeting cum Workshop of the CFEL- North East Cluster, Tezpur University, Assam

On 4th -6th April, 2016, the Centre for Endangered Languages, Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh , Arunachal Pradesh attended the meeting cum workshop of the North East Cluster organised by Nodal Centre, Tezpur University, Assam.

Outreach Program at Disi Village, West Siang District

The Disi Primary School which was established in the year 1966, attained 50 years of its existence in March 2016. During celebration of Golden Jubilee of the school, Prof. Tamo Mibang, the honouble Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv University graced the school and participated the celebration more as local scholar than a Vice-Chancellor of a Central University. The original rural background setup, simplicity of the villagers, well maintained school and the fascinating natural set up of the village where more than 90% is under forest, won the status of adoption of a village. Villagers were so delighted when the Vice-Chancellor, at the end of his speech declared that the RGU is adopting the village for one year.

National Seminar on Oral and Textual Traditions of North East India

A National seminar on Oral and Textual Traditions of North East India was organized by AITS in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi from 28 to 30 March 2016. The inauguration on the 28th of March, 2016 was chaired by Prof. Tamo Mibang, the Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University.

Outreach Activites conducted by NSS CELL, RGU

For the last one year, we were able to conduct various regular and special programmes with our volunteers and faculty. The National Workshop and MoU signed between NCRI and RGU are one of the milestones in reshaping and reconstruction of rural development. Three of our students have undergone two months summer rural internship at the remote villages of Arunachal Pradesh and submitted their reports to NCRI. We are sure that NSS Cell would be innovative and pragmatic in their future programme.

NSS Unit of RGU Celebrated World Environment Day

The RGU NSS Unit marked the World Environment Day by organizing a Vanmahotsava with the plantation of altogether 376 saplings in the campus. Prof.Amitav Mitra Finance Officer, Shri.Gomar Basar NSS programme officer, Prof.H.N Sarma Coordinator, Centre with Potential for Excellence in Biodiversity also participated in the programme along with NSS volunteers and Research Scholars.

Language and Cultural Field Documentation of The Tangam & Khamba Community

The Centre for Endangered Languages (CFEL) carried out its first field trip from February 2016 to Kuging village, located in Paindem circle under Upper Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh to document the language, folk narratives and the cultural practices of the critically endangered Tangams (Adi) community.

Language and Cultural Field Documentation of the Kasik Speech Community

The second field trip of CFEL was carried out in Noksa village of Tirap District in order to document the language and culture of Kasik Noctes. The Kasik language falls among the endangered lan¬guages of Arunachal Pradesh and is spoken only in Noksa, Pullong and Tupi villages of Tirap District.

The two-day Workshop on the Language and Cultural Documentation of Endangered languages was successfully held during 18th-19th Feb, 2016 at Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.

On the event of International Mother Languages Day (IMLD) a program on the theme “Quality Education, Language of Instruction and Learning Outcomes” was organized by the Centre for Endangered Languages (CFEL) and Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS), Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono hills at the Institute of Distance Education, Rajiv Gandhi University conference hall on 3rd March, 2016.

On 27/01/2016 a one day awareness programme on ‘Bird Conservation and Ecotourism Potential’ was organized at middle school, khereng, Anjaw. Total 89 students and staffs attended the programme. Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on wildlife related ecotourism potential, dismal situation of wildlife in the state and Mr Talo Biju spoke on bird diversity and threats on the occasion.

Sarma spoke on Medicinal plant diversity and economic potential in the state and Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on wildlife conservation and tourism potential in fringe area of D’Ering Memorial wildlife sanctuary on the occasion

On 08/07/2015 a one day awareness programme on, ‘Bird Conservation and Ecotourism Potential’ was organized at government higher secondary school, Borguli East Siang. Total 203 students and staffs attended the programme. Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on Ecotourism, ecotourism potential& benefits and link to bird conservation.

Awareness cum Workshop Programme On ‘Bird Values and Bird Watching’ at Rani, East Siang

0n 17/02/2015 a one day awareness cum workshop programme on, ‘bird values and bird watching’ at was organized at government secondary School, Rani, East Siang. Total 230 students and staffs attended the programme. Dr. Daniel Mize spoke on ecological importance of birds emphasizing on promotion of ecotourism and benefits to mankind, Mr Ripin Taba spoke on threatened birds and threats to birds in Arunachal Pradesh and Mr Abpres T Kimsing spoke on various technique to study birds.

RGU Joins in Awareness Programme on Opium Addiction

Universities are mostly confined only in their regular academic activities within the campus having least link with their societies. Besides regular teaching and learning activities, they have also responsibilities towards their society by extending knowledge to local people in solving some of the local problems and motivate them to improve their life in the field of economy, health, better management of local resources, children educations, knowledge about their own rights and duties, and awareness about their local environment.

Capacity Building Programme on Cultural Resource Management

Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS) , Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for The Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi organized a four day Capacity Building Program on “Cultural Resource Management” in the mini auditorium of Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar from 9th to 12th February 2015.

Botanical Expedition-2015 and Biodiversity Lecture Series at Tawang and West Kameng

The M.Sc. Final Semester Students of Department of Botany, RGU has successfully participated and trained themselves in Short Term Students’ Botanical Expedition -2015 lead by expedition team leader Dr. Hui Tag, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh and Deputy Coordinator of CPEB-II programme. The team has visited major botanical and biocultural hotspots of Tawang and West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh from 4th February to 11th February 2015.

Rural Outreach and Athnobotanical Appraisal and in Mishmi Hills and Lohit Districts

The botanical and cross cultural ethnobotanical field and rural outreach tour was conducted in Lohit, Anjaw and Changlang Districts of Arunachal Pradesh from 12th June 2015 to 23rd June 2015 by the PI and his scholars. The main aim of the expedition was to conduct taxonomic collection and exploration of flowering plants of the Mishmi Hills and rapid ethnobotanical appraisal and documentation of diverse uses of medicinal plants traditionally used by the local communities Khamti, Idu Mishmi and Mizo Mishmi.

Rapid Ethnobotanical Appraisal and Rural Outreach in Dibang Valley Districts

The second botanical field survey and rural outreach tour was carried out in Dibang Valley and Lohit Districts of Arunachal Pradesh from 10th July 2015 to 19th July 2015 by the deputed scholars to gather knowledge base of the Lower and Upper Dibang Valley Districts and part of Lohit District. The main purpose of the tour was to assess the cross cultural ethnobotanical knowledge base of the local communities particularly the Idu Mishmi, Adi, and Digaru Mishmi residing in the two districts and to document various uses of general ethnobotanical.

Students’ Lecture Series on “Biodiversity & Livelihood – Mountain Section” held at Dirang

The Biodiversity Conservation Lecture Series titled “Biodiversity & Livelihood – Students’ Lecture Series of Mountain Section” was organised by Centre with Potential for Excellence in Biodiversity, Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh in collaboration with Principal of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Dirang on 9th January 2015 at Students Auditorium, Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Dirang, West Kameng.
