The Department of Social Work (DSW) at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) was established in 2015 with the vision of providing quality Social Work Education. The Department started with offering face-to-face Master of Arts in Social Work (MASW) Program during the academic session 2015-16. The MASW students/trainees are exposed to carefully crafted skill building and personality development programs and are provided with opportunities to participate in workshops, seminars and lectures from external experts on regular basis. The Doctoral Program in Social Work (PhDSW) was introduced in June 2018 to focus on strengthening the research component with an emphasis on ‘evidence-based practice and practice-based evidence’. In our pursuit to extend our horizons in serving diverse categories of student community the Certificate Program in Environmental Sanitation (CPES) was conceptualized and introduced with the academic session 2019-20 for an integrated understanding to the learners about the issues involved in Health, Hygiene and Sustainable Development. Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) as Four Year UG Programme under NEP-2020 has also been commenced with the academic year 2023-24 under Institute of Undergraduate Studies (IUGS), RGU.

The mandates of the social work course curriculum also include students led initiatives in the department and the community with varied clientele groups. The department has strived and established a strong foothold in the field of social work education by means of continuous engagement in both academic and outreach activities. In a relatively short span of time, the Department has established meaningful and sustainable engagement with more than fifty field work partner agencies located across the country.

The department is thereby committed in enabling and equipping the students to realize their full potential and acquire the knowledge, skills, values and techniques essential for a professional social worker leading to personal and professional development and country at large. Currently the Department offers four regular academic programmes as below:

1. Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work (PhDSW)
2. Master of Arts in Social Work (MASW)
3. Certification Program in Environmental Sanitation (CPES)
4. Bachelor of Social Work (Four Year UG Programme under NEP-2020

Location :Rajiv Gandhi University

About the Seminar

Mahatma Gandhi remains a critical reference point to exhibitplurality of ideas not only in the context of India, during the Indian freedom struggle and post-independence period, but in the entire world which increasingly faces today a near possibility of a nuclear holocaust threatening the entire mankind. The efforts to transform the culture of war and violence into culture of peace and non-violence have so far not succeeded. There is increasing realisation that peace is not merely an absence of violence but is intimately linked with issues of justice as reflected in the several struggles for justice waged in different parts of the world. The challenge is to transform violent struggles into non-violent ones aimed at stirring and mobilisingsociety into a wider dialogue on the fundamental and ethical issues. This debate has to be converted into a critical mass so as to sensitise the educators, academicians, activist- members of the civil society, policy makers and students at all levels.
